MAGDALO MJF LIONS CLUB VISIT YEO-JU LIONS CLUB
Since 1996, the Magdalo MJF Lions Club is twinned with Yeo-ju Lions Club of Korea. It’s been a tradition that the club visit one’s country alternately. The tradition stopped for some time, but for the Lion Year 2017- 2018 the officers of the of both club decided to renew the old friendship and maintain the club camaraderie among members both old and new.
Last June 16 to 19, 2018, eight members of Magdalo MJF Lions Club together with two Leo Club members headed to Korea to visit their twin club, Yeo-Ju Lions Club. It’s not just a simple club visitation, Magdalo MJF Lions Club also graced in the Anniversary and Induction Ceremony of the Yeo-ju Lions Club.
As usual, the Philippine guests received a very warm welcome and experienced an excellent hospitality from the Korean hosts. The Magdalo members were welcomed by the incoming President Gyu-Han, Lim, together with other officers of Yeo-ju Lions Club. In the evening, a Welcome dinner was held in a restaurant, were most of the Korean members together with their wives were waiting to greet and welcome the Filipino members. During the welcome dinner, both club members were introduced to each other and had the time to get to know better. After the dinner, fellowship followed and friendship developed.
A visit to South Korea is incomplete without trying the Korean traditional clothing. Members of Magdalo MJF Lions Club tour the Gyeongbokgung Palace wearing the traditional wear of the Koreans, the Hanbok. Korean heritage and style are truly felt while touring the palace. It is one of the unique experience and lasting memory for the members.
The main purpose of the visit, which is serving together and grace the Anniversary and Induction Ceremony, was held on June 18. In the morning, both Yeo-ju Lions Club headed by President Juk Ik-Chae and Magdalo Lions Club headed by President Awin Camantigue, visited the North Side Office. The members and officers made a courtesy visit to the official, Yoo Jun-hee to witness the turn-over of the living allowance worth 500,000 won each to two household whose case management is difficult. The persons who received the living allowance / expense suffers from a lot of difficulties in life. Another project of Yeo-ju Lions Club, the installation of restroom in Joam-ri was visited by the group. It has been one of the project of the Yeo-ju Lions Club to build and repair houses and support living expenses of the less fortunate. The mission of the Yeo-ju Lions Club is to share love to the community.
The Anniversary and Induction Ceremony was held in the evening of June 18. Guests from different districts and clubs of Korea were present to witness the event. Philippine delegates were wearing the traditional Filipiniana attire to represent the country. President Arwin Camantigue delivered a speech and received the plaque together with Lion Restituto Enriquez.
Building friendship and embracing other culture is one of the perks of being a Lion.
