Magdalo Lions Club Launches Sight For Kids 2017-2018

The Magdalo Lions Club launches its annual Sight for Kids project for the term 2017-2018 with initial coordination with schools based in Noveleta, Cavite.
Magdalo Lions Club coordinated with Gerardo Umali, District Supervisor for the Department of Education for Noveleta, Cavite. He coordinated with the eight different schools in Noveleta namely: Noveleta Elementary School, Pacifico O. Aquino Elementary School, General L. San Miguel Elementary School, San Antonio Elementary School, San Juan Elementary School, Ambrocio S. Robles Elementary School, Salcedo Elementary School and Noveleta Junior High School/ Senior High School.
On August 17, 2017 the principals for the eight schools gathered together at the District Office to receive Eye Care Information Packet. Each principal would bring these packets back to their own schools so they can carry out the initial stages of the screenings. The screening process and steps were also discussed during this meeting. Deadline for all initial student screening reports are due for September 6, 2017. A screening with a licensed optometrist will follow in the schools for a more thorough examination. After that, eyeglasses distribution will be coordinated with Johnson & Johnson to make sure that the children get their eyeglasses with respective eye grades.
Further assistance will be given to those who will be needing cataract operations. The funding will be requested from the Lions Club International Foundation.
Lions International along with Johnson & Johnson and several local partners "created Sight for Kids, a program that mobilizes eye care professionals and volunteers to conduct vision screenings in low-income schools and provides teachers with eye health training." They do this by conducting initial screenings before distributing eyeglasses and conducting operations to the children who need them.
The Sight for Kids Grant Administrator is George Yuquico, PMJF who is also a Grand Ambassador, Past District Governor and Past Council Chairperson. The Magdalo Lions Club coordinator and Region 3 Sight for Kids Coordinator is Dorotea Ng Sang.
