The Magdalo Lions Club shed a Spotlight on SPED last August 11, 2017 at the Governor Demetrio M. Camerino Elementary School in Barangay Medicion II in Imus, Cavite. The club donated art supplies that will help the Special Education Class further develop their fine motor skills, coordination and social skills as well as give a spotlight on the current situation of Special Education in public schools.
The school's special education curriculum does its best to attend to the students' different needs that ranges from physical disabilities to developmental ones as well as learning difficulties.
The event was emceed by Madelyn Camarse. To start off the program in the morning, some words by Joanne Quides (Guidance Counselor) and Danilyn Siwa (Principal III) were shared before a special message from Magdalo Lions Club President Arwin Camantigue. The students of the SPED class then made a special presentation before finally enjoying themselves with a few activities prepared by the club.
There was a tactile experience with kinetic sand pits. There was also a sensory experience with color and shapes with painting and coloring activities. The students were also treated to a storytelling activity before exercising their coordination and thinking skills with a few puzzles.
To round off the morning, everybody - teachers, students and other special guests - all shared a hearty and healthy lunch before ending the program.
All materials that were used in the different activities were donated to the school to help give the students more activities and more supplies in order to continue their curriculum on special education, which has a large emphasis on art activities.
