Three students from Kawit, Cavite represented the Magdalo Lions Club in the Peace Poster Art Workshop hosted by the office of District 301-A2 last August 13, 2017 in Arquiza, Manila. The students, along with other representatives from other clubs, came together to learn from the workshop Illustrator, lecturer, and Leo member Raphael Alexandre "Andre" Manguba.
The Magdalo Lions Club coordinated with the local government of Kawit, Cavite to contact the three winners of the most recent Poster Making Contest held during Kawit Day 2017. Elementary students Mark Jefferson Elofre, Ivan Josh Dimaano and Amiel Diamond Chavez, ages 11-12, were invited to join the Art Workshop in preparation for the upcoming annual Peace Poster Contest of the Lions Clubs International.
The event, sponsored by Faber- Castell, was led by Andre Manguba, a self-taught artist with more than 94 thousand art-loving followers on Instagram. He was also awarded an International Peace Poster Merit Award in the 2012 International Peace Poster Contest. He shared his own techniques, experiences, hardships and successes and later on, gave a live demonstration while the participants followed along.
As part of the competition, the students were then given the theme, "The Future of Peace," some art supplies and an hour to complete their own poster.. The grand winner, along with five other top performing students, was given a special prize from the sponsor. This prize is in addition to the loot bag of art supplies and certificates given to all the participants.
This art workshop is a prelude to the annual Peace Poster Contest wherein the winner of the district level competition will compete along with other districts for a chance to represent the Philippines during the Lions Club International Centennial Celebration in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
